Fresh off their wins at the Grammys for Best New Artist, Fun., one of last year's breakthrough acts, has released a pretty deep new stylish video for their latest sweet, melancholy soft ballad, "Why Am I the One," the fourth single from their massively successful sophomore LP, "Some Nights." The aesthetic offering coinciding with "Why Am I The One" features the dapper indie trio looking rather sad, due to a lost suitcase. There was clearly only one thread left: the story of a sad suitcase, and the clip mirrors their rise to fame.
"Why am I the one always packing up my stuff?" clad in a suit and tie, the indie-pop singer croons. "The song is about constantly being on the move; and that is something that we've been for the last ten years, but more so this year than any," frontman Nate Ruess speaking with MTV News. The accompanying visual for "Why Am I The One," was directed by Jordan Bahat, and filmed in Seattle. It finds the suited trio looking gloomy about a lost suitcase, all the while their baggage, like a hipper Brave Little Toaster, goes on an journey of its own from the airport to their Los Angeles home.
Everyone hates lost luggage, but Fun. have a surprisingly good attitude about dealing with a missing suitcase. The Grammy-winning rockers come up empty at baggage claim, and traverse the city looking forlorn but certainly not enraged. As Fun. wail-ask, "Why Am I The One?" as the dudes dress in fancy suits and look wistful while their precious cargo gets tossed all over creation, lost in a poker game, and strapped to the back of a motorcycle, eventually showing up at their doorstep. The band is thrilled, and when they open their luggage, pull out their instruments in perfect Mary Poppins fashion with a hint of magic. That's one special suitcase. Serendipity. And this might sound strange, but we've legitimately never been so moved to see someone reunite with an inanimate object before. After all, they've had a whirlwind year, and lost their luggage and lament is just one of the things they've had to deal with on their rather remarkable rise to stardom. New York-based indie pop band, Fun., is back with a new set of visuals for their upbeat, hopeful ballad "Carry On," the third single off trio's gold-certified sophomore album, "Some Nights." Unlike most of their previous videos, this one has more of a 'happy' feel to it, featuring the band go on a night of merry-making and sold-out performances in the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps. "Some nights" are better than others - especially when Fun. is involved.
The uplifting, mid-tempo anthem has a slow and melancholic start with a solitary piano, but by the time it reaches its chorus, it is both inspirational and uplifting. Add in a rocking guitar solo and some well timed high-fives in the video and you've got the perfect after-party singalong. It may not reach the dizzy heights of "We Are Young" in terms of its infectiousness and worldwide success, but it's pretty anthemic all the same. It's a tale of both sadness and hope. The slower verses tell the story of situations that could've broken them, while the upbeat chorus is about carrying on.
Fun., the quirky pop-rockers pay tribute to themselves, and takes a breather from their signature, up-beat repertoire to introduce new song, "Carry On." It's a gorgeous departure from the norm, with a slightly anthemic tone and a sound that only gets bigger as it progresses. Frontman Nate Ruess will blow you away with those vocals, and the guitar solo takes pop-rock music to new magnitudes. If the members of Fun. are anything like their band's name, they surely share plenty of good times among themselves.
The Anthony Mandler-directed clip almost plays like a love song to the city. Contrary to their break out video for "We Are Young," which was blissful and dreamlike, the new video for their Broadway-meets-Journey pub-closer "Carry On" shows a much more realistic peek at what goes on in the lives of band members on tour. Split between a raucous performance and a wild night out, Fun.'s new video celebrates the track's never-say-die spirit. It's nice to see the boys are still as young as they claimed to be in their breakout single, drinking and acting their age.

Following the success of single "We Are Young," Fun. return and hit the battlefield in their new video for "Some Nights," the second single and the title track from their sophomore studio album, which has been released since February and made its debut on Billboard Hot 200 at the third place. The clip very artfully showcases a battle between Union and Confederate soldiers, and "Some Nights" is a sure-fire contender for the sound and anthem of this summer!
Fun. named their album after this track as they feel it best represents not only their entire record, but also where they're at as a band. "I think that the song 'Some Nights' just kind of sums up who we are as a band, and while it's über-personal, I think it gives people a lot of stuff to relate to. It's not a love song; it's a song about being an underdog and trying to figure out where you fall into that situation," lead vocals Nate Ruess told MTV News.
After all, "Some Nights" is very much about the inner battle he - and most of us, really - faces on a daily basis: the challenge of trying to find a balance between wildly different desires, of giving in to basic instincts one moment, then attempting to walk the moral tightrope the next. There is genuine guilt and frustration and even actual anger, he can't believe he acts the way he does, and yet, he cannot imagine acting any other way. And above all else, he truly can't comprehend how one person can be this complex, this hell-bent on destruction.
The Anthony Mandler-directed clip, takes place on a battlefield that evokes the Civil War, is more like a short film than actual music video, with 5:41 minutes needed to have this story truly come to life. With Ruess and his bandmates performing on a makeshift stage in the middle of the firefight, fans see a glimpse of a young man and older gentleman who both happen to be soldiers in their respective separate lives. It concludes in the aforementioned gun battle, where the two coincidentally face off. You never see your enemy as more than just that, and Fun. delve right into that notion with this one. But really, "Some Nights" is a video about war and its tragic outcomes.

New York-based indie pop band FUN. have dropped a beautifully-made music video for "We Are Young." The first must-see music video of 2012 is a gorgeous, gasp-inducing thing, a swirling, slow-motion snow globe of imagery that gradually envelops the band, and guest vocalist Janelle Monáe, who recorded her vocals in Europe then sent them over to the band, who later in the year supported the singer on her Campus Consciousness Tour. This, apparently, is what FUN. looks like.
Formed by frontman Nate Ruess in 2008, the three seasoned musicians immediately wrote and recorded their debut album, "Aim and Ignite," and FUN. subsequently supported various bands like Paramore, Panic! At the Disco and Jack's Mannequin and secured a spot in an Expedia commercial with their song "Walking The Dog." The eye-catching clip and bombastic new single lead up to the release of their upcoming sophomore album, "Some Nights," FUN. serves notice that 2012 may very well be their breakout year.
"We Are Young," a depiction of the message of solidarity and celebration of the underdog that warrants the track's "anthemic" label. The song it's promoting is actually really good too - a big, bold ballad that just keeps building and building, one that manages to capture both the wide-eyed optimism and the burgeoning, world-weary pessimism of millennial youth. Slightly touching, sublimely pretty, the rare marriage of style and substance, you will pump your fists to it, send your bodies sailing to it, cry to it and, most importantly, shout along to its anthemic chorus.
The Marc Klasfeld-directed clip sees the pop-rock group performing the song at a bar and their show goes on uninterrupted although the bar where they perform turns into a total chaos due to a violent brawl when people start to pick up a fight and attack each other, but the band are undeterred by the brawl and continue their show as if nothing happens. he 26-year-old Alternative Soul singer Monáe is also wearing her signature starched tuxedo and immaculately-coiffed hair, she appears in the middle of the bar fight standing motionless.
