The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (DVD)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Thursday, December 25, 2008 0 comments

"I was born under unusual circumstances." The story is about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.
It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. 'Benjamin Button,' is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time. A life lived backwards can be far more enriching..." and describes the film as "a magical and moving account of a man living his life resoundingly in reverse"
It's a curious story indeed, warm tears, sweet-hearted film, filled with some truly touching stuff about impermanence, love and loss for the fleeting joys of life... very very interesting movie!!!

Katy Perry | "Thinking of You" (Video)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Tuesday, December 23, 2008 0 comments

Katy Perry was born October 25, 1984 in California, she rose to fame in 2007 with her internet hit "Ur So Gay", and later scored in 2008 her breakthrough single "I Kissed a Girl". The single "Thinking of You" is the 3rd single of Katy Perry from her debut album "One of the Boys". It is one of three tracks from the album written solely by Katy. It initially received some positive reviews leading up to the release. Billboard wrote "...Thinking of You is decidedly more earnest..." and ended with "As a woman who has played the game for longer than most realize, she has earned her keep."
The music video is a 2nd and official music video in the 1st week of December 2008, directed by Melina. The video premiered exclusively on iTunes on today. The video was presented as a flashback montage with a young woman (played by Perry) whose lover is killed in France during the 2nd World War. Katy is clearly not pleased with her new love and longs for her deceased lover to be back. It features actor Matt Dallas as Perry's true love and model Anderson Davis as Katy's second love in the video. As of July 7, 2009, the song has received more than 11 million views on YouTube.

Alexandra Burke | "Hallelujah" (Live)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Saturday, December 13, 2008 0 comments

Alexandra Burke was born on 25 August 1988 in London, and winner of the 5th series of UK television singing talent show "The X Factor". Alexandra became the current European record holder for single sales over a period of 24 hours, selling 105,000 copies of her debut single, "Hallelujah", in one day. "Hallelujah" went on to become the Christmas #1 single of 2008. It is the 1st time that an X Factor winner has topped the end of year chart in the UK with their winner's single, and making Alexandra the 1st British female solo artist to sell a million copies of a single in the UK.
At the X Factor's final, she sang what would become her debut single, a 1984 song by Leonard Cohen, "Hallelujah", for the 1st time. Finally, with over 8 million votes cast in total, Alexandra was revealed as the winner with 58% of the final vote, which is 1 million more votes than JLS in the final. Alexandra's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", which she performed on the show, is available as a digital-download now, and will be released on CD next Wednesday (December 17th).

Akon | "Freedom" (Album)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Tuesday, December 2, 2008 0 comments

Freedom is the third studio album by singer, Akon. The album was originally named Acquitted, however Akon changed it due to its negative connotation. Freedom is the first album by Akon not to carry the Parental Advisory warning, although there is still profanity in the album. The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, selling 110,000 copies its first week. It currently sold about 600,000 copies in the U.S.
Let's enjoy two of my favorite songs in this album now. Please click on each title to listen. "Freedom" and "Beautiful" (featuring with Colby O'Donis & Kardinal Offishall.)
The video for "Beautiful" is the 3rd official single from album "Freedom", and that he "wants the best music video" for the song. The video was premiered on Yahoo! Music on February 24.

Brandy | "Long Distance"(Video)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Monday, December 1, 2008 0 comments

Brandy was born into a musical family in Mississippi on February 11, 1979. She is one of the most successful of the new breed of urban R&B female vocalists. "Long Distance" is a song from her 5th studio album, "Human" in 2008. The lyrics of the ballad deal with the protagonist's difficulties of a long-distance relationship.Although a music video for the song was actually expected to be shot by Norwegian director Ray Kay in the week October 20, a clip for "Long Distance" was eventually filmed by Chris "C-Rob" Robinson on November 6 in LA, who wants to depict his vision of taking Brandy "through the feeling of missing the person she's in love with." The music video premiered on Perez Hilton today.
My all time favorite: "Human", "Right Here Departed", "The Definition", "True" and "A Capella Somethings Missing". Check her Official Site and MySpace for more.

David Cook was born December 20, 1982 in Texas. "Light On" is the 1st official single to be released from American Idol season 7 winner's major label debut studio album, "David Cook", and it was released iTunes and Amazon today. The song also displays David's powerful upper register, with the singer hitting a high C at the end of each verse.
The music video for "Light On" was shot on October 21 and 22 at the Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee Florida , it was also shot at " The Lunchbox " a local diner in Tallahassee with Wayne Isham as the director. The video is a performance video of Cook singing on a stage in the football stadium, and also features a plot of a teenage boy working at a diner. A teenage girl, portrayed by Mika Boorem, walks into the diner and he watches her, becoming jealous when her boyfriend comes to the diner. Near the end, the girl fights with her boyfriend in his car, after he hit on some girls at the diner before her eyes, and gets out of the car, but he drives away and leaves her stranded there, late at night. The boy from the diner shows up on his bike and gives her a ride home on the handlebars of the bike. The video debuted at #1 on VH1's Top 20 Countdown on November 22.
The another my favorite single from David is "Time Of My Life", the winning song of the 2008 American Idol.

Taylor Swift: "Love Story" premiered on CMT

Swift wrote "Love Story" herself. It is the first single from her second studio album, "Fearless". The song became a hit on both the country and pop charts, and has been downloaded more than 3 million times, making it the most downloaded country song in history. It also accompanied by a music video that is based on "Romeo and Juliet".
I first time watched this music video at Yahoo! Music side, and liked the song very much with the story. I can't count how many times I went back the site and listen to it again and again... I do admire that Swift was doing great job on this one, love it! Please do share your thoughts with me.

Lifehouse | "Broken" (Album's 3rd Single)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Thursday, June 19, 2008 0 comments

Lifehouse - "Broken", the album's third single, has appeared on several TV series, including Grey's Anatomy ("Lay Your Hands On Me"), Criminal Minds ("In Birth and Death"), One Tree Hill, General Hospital and The Hills. So far, it has peaked at #83 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for "Broken" officially debuted on VH1's Top 20 Countdown on September 20, 2008.
By the way, "Broken" from the album "Who We Are" was used for the official I-Tunes trailer of the Warner Bros/Newline Cinema move "The Time-Traveler's Wife" released on August 14, 2009.
The video starts with lead singer Jason Wade in the drivers seat of a car, with the other members of the band, Rick, Bryce, and Ben, in the car with him. The traffic is at a stand still in a tunnel, as a swarm of people have abandoned their vehicles and are walking through. Wade and the band members get out of the car, and begin walking in the opposite direction of the crowd to the other side of the tunnel. Wade pushes through the people, who are in a rush to get to the entrance of the tunnel, while Wade is constantly focused on his destination to get to the end. When he reaches the tunnel's end, he sees the wreckage of a car crash with firefighters and paramedics cleaning up the mess. Wade then sees a girl observing what appears to be herself, dead inside one of the crashed car. He then looks to the left, and sees an old man observing himself, dead on the ground. As Wade looks into the other car, he sees himself, also seemingly dead.
Upon this, he frantically runs back into the tunnel towards his car. He sees himself in the car with the band members, however everyone seems to be frozen as he bangs on the windows. Suddenly he's inside the car again, and a police officer comes to the window to motion him to continue driving, since he is stopped in the middle of the tunnel for no apparent reason. The video then ends, giving the impression that Wade was having a premonition the whole time about a car crash he might cause.
Jason Wade also has a reason as to why he wrote this song. His friend who lived in Nashville needed a kidney transplant so Wade flew out to see his friend. When he got there he went to talk to him and the chorus of the song is actually what his friend told him.

Clay Aiken was born in North Carolina on November 30, 1978, who began his rise to fame on the 2nd season of American Idol in 2003. "On My Way Here" is his 4th full length studio album released today.
The song "On My Way Here" is the title track about how the lessons we learn growing up shape us into the adults we become. This struck a chord with Clay and the song became the inspiration for the album's theme. Clay said "I thought if we could find songs along those lines, that deal with my life over the past five years and what I've learned from my experiences, it would be a great concept for an album."
"On My Way Here" is also included on the Super Hero album commemorating the 2008 Beijing Olympics presented by MBA Sports.

Colbie Caillat | "Realize" (Video)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Tuesday, January 29, 2008 0 comments

Colbie Caillat was born May 28, 1985 in California. "Realize" is the 2nd single from her debut album, "Coco" and was officially released today. The song is an acoustic folk-pop song, where Colbie sings of having feelings for a best friend. Allmusic said "she sings about simple, everyday things in an unassuming manner, letting her melodies and girl-next-door charm carry the day".
The video was filmed in Canada. Colbie and her best friend both left a note for each other, and the two discover that neither is home, and slip their notes under each others doors. Instead of leaving, the friend decides to sit and wait at Colbie's door, and Colbie is shown arriving as the two exchange smiles.
I'm pretty like Colbie's singing style, and have a lot of favorite singles: Battle, Bubbly, Capri, Feelings Show, Kiss The Girl, Magic, Mistletoe, Older, Onde Fire Wire, Oxygen, Tailor Made and The Little Things.

Secondhand Serenade | "Fall for You" (Video)

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Monday, January 21, 2008 0 comments

Secondhand Serenade is an American acoustic rock solo project fronted by vocalist and guitarist John Vesely. The "Fall for You" was the 1st single from Secondhand Serenade's 2nd studio album 'A Twist in My Story'.
A music video was released a week after the single was released. It features John Vesely playing the piano and performing the song intercut with footage of Vesely with a woman. They seem to be happily in love until he appears to show some insecurity, making her think he doesn't love her when he really does. This results in a fight breaking out between the two of them resulting in her wanting to leave. In the end, however, she comes back to him.
I also like his debut album 'Awake' in 2007, as well as the last single 'Goodbye' from album 'A Twist in My Story'.
