The ladies of Icona Pop, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, have hit Paris, slow the tempo and get glam in the premiere of their latest music video for the mid-tempo gem "Just Another Night," the third cut from Swedish duo's international debut album "This Is... Icona Pop." It's a known fact that Paris makes everything more sophisticated, so Icona Pop set down there for "Just Another Night" to explore with a lavishly black-and-white, Paris-set tale of a love triangle between two Swedish girls, one Italian man, the City of Lights, funny business, love, deceit, passion, regret, desire, and intrigue.
The pop music's favorite diva duo Icona Pop has been dominating the charts since their debut hit single, "I Love It" in 2012. The two girls got their iconic band name thanks to Hjelt's mother, "My mother coined our collective name We were having dinner with some Italian friends, and my mother said I was going to be a pop icon one day. 'Icona pop' means 'pop icon' in Italian." Icona Pop switched up the pace for "Just Another Night" a silent hero off their album, a full of high energy songs, which they deliver in an incredibly exciting and vibrant live show.
This somber breakup ballad finds the Icona Pop duo taking turns singing about a relationship that has just ended, and it speaks to the young adults in the world, just another night out on the town and the shenanigans that ensue. It's a heartbroken song built around ballad-y piano passages, but with the same knowingness and real-talk lyricism of their breakout hit. The Stargate-produced single definitely shows a softer, more melodic side to our favorite Swedes but it's not exactly an invitation to dance.
The beautiful French New Wave-inspired video was filmed in Paris, directed by Marc Klasfeld and tells the story of a love triangle between the Icona Pop pair and an Italian man. The song's heavy synth opening lends itself to the darkness of the story. Over the course of 3 minutes and 31 seconds, Klasfeld manages to visually explore all the Parisians tropes: black and white stripped clothes, sitting at an outdoor cafe and drinking wine, eating pastries, smoking on balconies, birdcage veils, high fashion photo shoots, the Arc de Triomphe. In the twist ending, no one is satisfied except the Italian man. So, it's a true-to-life story.

Swedish electro-pop screamers Icona Pop teams with Absolut pays tribute to New York's underground drag scene and host a 'Paris Is Burning'-esque vogue-off in their latest video for their sensational new single, "All Night," which finds the Icona Pop duo of Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt shout-singing in unison about partying. "With love this deep, we don't need no sleep. We can do this all night," they proclaim on the beat heavy anthem.
In all, "All Night" basically transports you to a world of on-point dance moves, infectious pop music, fabulous drag queens, and all-rhinestone-everything. The Icona Pop girls are no strangers to working with brands. So, having the help of a major brand like Absolut helping back the next single is a bid to ensure the group goes beyond any one-hit wonder status, especially as their debut, "This Is...Icona Pop," is due September 24th on Big Beat/Atlantic.
If you've ever seen the wonderful 1990 documentary "Paris Is Burning," you'll immediately recognize the scene from Icona Pop's video for "All Night." An iconic documentary that chronicled New York City's '80s ridiculously photogenic ball culture - a vogueing competition has performers swirling down a makeshift runway while the Swedish popstresses performing at a club showdown, and sing "All Night" that is surprisingly as catchy as their much-loved, much-screamed-at-the-bar debut, "I Love It."

Its new video, from director Dori Oskowitz, takes the song's kineticism and really does something with it. The video was filmed in New York and inspired by the city's "house ballroom" culture, Icona Pop is seen hosting an intense, stylish dance party where bottles of the new Absolut Tune are generously flowing out drinks. The video is the first part of a new partnership between Icona Pop and Absolut to support the national launch of Tune, a sparkling Sauvignon Blanc-and-vodka product that was rolled out in select markets earlier this year.

Swedish DJ synthpop duo Icona Pop has just dropped the music video for their second international single, "Girlfriend." To follow up the meteoric success of their breakout single "I Love It," the girls of Icona Pop is ready to set forth on their next electro-pop voyage and needed an equally huge sophomore single, presumably bigger than anything on their self-titled Swedish debut, and their new catchy track "Girlfriend" is as enormously infectious as you'd expect given that their recent collaborators have included Stargate, Benny Blanco and Shellback.
Just in time for summer, "Girlfriend" is the next roll-down-your-windows, put-your-hands-up ode to friendship and freedom, and it marks the beginning of the international promotion for the launch of their global debut album "This Is..." which the girls described as "almost done" in a Billboard interview last February and will released later this summer. It's easy to identify with Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt as they sing about going on adventures together and making it up as they go, but it's also, as usually, really easy to get down and jump around to their catchy, irresistible beats. The duo say this is a taste of what's to come and we're looking forward to the rest.
The track was produced by Stargate and finds the duo reaffirming their friendship. "All I need in this life of sin/Is me and my girlfriend!" The duo happily sing together on their latest track, which snatches its lyrics from the chorus of Tupac Shakur's 1996 track "Me and My Girlfriend," which was later sampled by Jay-Z and Beyoncé on "'03 Bonnie And Clyde." By using the late Los Angeles icon rhymes, these girlfriends rework the hook, changing "bloody" to "happy" for the Bonnie and Clyde-referencing "down to ride" portion. But the message is still the same. It's buried under pounding electropop, the foundation of this celebratory fizzy fist-pump of a song.
Directed by Mackash, the three-minute video for "Girlfriend" gives glimpses at the Swedish electro-pop duo riding their Mini car looking incredibly flawless through deserted roads, town and villages, and stepping off of it to search a train they can hop on. They are then seen boarding a moving freight train and end up performing their female friendship anthem on top of the roof while in motion. Icona Pop also give the music video an extra dose of excitement by performing "Girlfriend" in a room filled with light effects. It's simple and perfect for an anthem of their love.

Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop continues their quest for global domination with their new video for the incredibly catchy latest single, "We Got The World." Although the duo has yet to release a full-length album in North America, the video comes on the heels of the release of their debut self-titled LP in Sweden, and features Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, the duo behind Swede club, doing what they do best: slaying crowds, partying, larking around and raging hard.
Icona Pop really really like to party and make feel-good club beats with electro house music, punk and indie pop influences. While it seemed like they couldn't get any more poppy with their feel-good anthems, they've pushed that sugary sound even further into the red with some of the most popped out anthems of the past couple of years. Being in a band is a lot of work but it can also be a lot of fun. If you were to look for an analogue for where Icona Pop fits into the music world, you'd probably start with Robyn, but with a certain X-Factor that places them on the cool-kid side of the cafeteria.
"We Got The World," is an uptempo dance track with pummeling house beats that has shades of Calvin Harris, plus Robyn at her most euphorically carefree. The girls sing over a coruscating house track. It's an explosive creddy pop single knock you over the head confection has a strong dash of EDM that shows why these Swedes are one of the most hotly tipped new groups of the year. Icona Pop don't suffer from the inherent strain and tedious nature of life on the road in their new clip, if anything, they have the most when they're not rockin' out.
Documenting their touring life, the Fredrik Etoall-directed clip dials up both sides of the pop/punk-rock dialectic to 11, and has Icona Pop seizing the day like the lyrics promise all over the place: crashing in hotels, making out with strangers at a burlesque club, spin in front of huge crowds and, riding topless through the desert, and looking too hip for life, you name it, they're doing it. If there's anything we can take away from this video, it's that Icona Pop's touring life is just as loud, catchy, stylish, fast-paced, and naked as their music would indicate.
