19-year-old country’s foremost pragmatist Taylor Swift is "Fifteen" all over again in the brand new music video for her song of the same name. The video has made its official debut last night on CMT after a 90-minute special about the singer titled "Fifteen Swiftly-Made Videos", including fan favorites like "Teardrops on My Guitar," "Love Story" and the VMA-winning "You Belong With Me."
Swift and her best friend Abigail Anderson learn a life lesson at 15 in this new "Fifteen" video, however, has already found its way online. In it, Swift, in her signature curls, a little white dress and barefoot, travels through a dreamlike montage of scenes from high school. This song is all about being fifteen; having your first kiss, your first day of high school, and getting your heart broken. Swift told CMT "'Fifteen' talks about how my best friend, Abigail, got her heart broken when we were in ninth grade and singing about that absolutely gets me every time." Swift also said that the song went around the lyrics "Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind." Throughout most of the video Swift plays her acoustic guitar, moving through fields and through various surreal scenes of high school life while singing about how in high school you think your first boyfriend is so important until you realize you want to do other things with your life. It ends with Swift in the real world, all grown up, looking at the student she once was.
The video was directed by Roman White, who was also the director of the "You Belong With Me" video, and makes country music come to life. He said "It's this huge elaborate special effects video that we shot over green screen because from the beginning I wanted to do something different from what Swift had done before. We wanted to take this one outside of high school. The idea is that there's a place where you can go back and revisit your memories. She's in this void and memories are manifesting around her. The story evolves and she walks across this dream world. When she walks through those doors and people fade in and out, she just has this amazing sense of innocence."
Swift plans to re-release Fearless, the album that "Fifteen" is on October 27. The re-release will include several new songs. When she originally put out the LP last November, she spoke to MTV News about how the songs were inspired by her own life. "I like to write personal songs," she said. "I like to write songs that are very obviously about people. It's kind of hard to change your stripes. I like to write songs about love, and I like to write songs about relationships, and I like to write songs about boys."
