Folk Rock band The Portlands have released a brand new video over on Blank TV features their debut single "Three Spaniards," which comes from the band's recently released EP, "Peace, Love, Soul," Set to release this Summer through Dusk Record. The video is the first installment in what is being called a "silent" concept film that will be built around all of the EP's tracks.The Portlands formed in 2009 and have toured the world with their distinct brand of Folk-Rock n' Roll. After sharing studio time with Elbow only three months into their formation whilst at Blueprint Studios, they went on to play some of the most prestigious venues in the country on their first UK Tour, and finished with a 15,000 capacity crowd festival date at the end of summer 2010. Press coverage, interviews and radio play followed, including interest from Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes/co-founder of Saddlecreek Records, Omaha; and ex-Joe Satriani drummer Jonathan Mover.
They then went on to New York to record their latest EP, "Peace, Love, Soul," at the well-renowned Skyline Studios. The band laid down 10 full tracks and 10 acoustic tracks, one of which partially recorded separately in England and sent back across the Atlantic Ocean. Tracked, Mixed, Produced and Mastered by Nick Miller with Argel Anaya, Graig Janssen and Paul Maddocks at Skyline Studios, the debut single from which, "Three Spaniards," has reached great critical acclaim, and is to set the scene for what looks to be a promising foundation for the bands assault.
The Portlands turn out to be the first and only band to indulge us with a few semi acoustic numbers mid set, and it's a welcome change to the, so far, rock heavy menu. "Three Spaniards" piques interest with its melancholy melody whilst "Sunshine And Stars," and "Shackles Of Time" are laced with a subtle measure of angst by the slightly gravelly voiced singer Dook. These are a captivating lot, not frightened to express their individuality, who clearly enjoy what they do. The uplifting, gritty delivery of "The March" with its military drum beat and rousing guitars is an inspired finish to their set.
