MIKA has released the video for his new track "Celebrate," a pair-up with rapper and producer Pharrell Williams, will serve as the lead single from British-Lebanese singer's upcoming third studio album, "The Origin of Love," which was inspired by his love affairs with men, and will be released on September 16. "It's an album about crazy love songs and tolerance," the 29-year-old gushed.MIKA's comeback couldn't be better-timed. "Celebrate" is an upbeat, uplifting vintage-sounding pop record, and on the topic of moving on, is a decidedly straight affair. The summer song has a retro synthpop clubby feel, and its message is clear - he simply wants the whole world to celebrate life. The synth-heavy pop, yet head-nodding, sound that allows MIKA to blossom. It also shows that the Neptunes mastermind brings his smooth vocals, giving it a another dimension.
Speaking about the recording of the song, MIKA explained: "This kind of collaboration is only possible when everyone throws themselves into it wanting to have fun and without any ego. This collective and open attitude was at the heart of 'The Origin Of Love.'" Unlike his usual potentially window-shattering falsetto on other songs, we actually hear what MIKA’s voice actually sounds like when he wants to take it down a few octaves. The song is reminiscent of the party club songs of the late 70s and 80s and makes you want to put on your best platforms or acid wash jeans and get down on the dancefloor this summer.
The clip was directed by BB-Gun and shot in New York. It opens with the Brit pop-sensation sitting in front of a piano, seemingly trying to compose new tune, but having trouble in writing the lyrics. Frustration ensues and torn paper stacks up until he finds inspiration within his surroundings and realizes he simply wants the whole world to celebrate. And as we see MIKA jet off to a dance club and boogie down in a state of euphoria, leaving his cares behind in the process.
