Conor Maynard trying to avoid advances of his ex in "R U Crazy"

Posted by Kevin Z. Rong Sunday, September 1, 2013

After breaking out with his stellar debut album "Contrast," Conor Maynard is back, takes the urban route and playing a very bitter jilted angry ex in the brand new music video for his latest offering, "R U Crazy," the lead single off the 20-year-old English singer's upcoming sophomore album, due out later this year via Parlophone Records. The "Turn Around" singer now says the new album reflects the journey of his meteoric rise to stardom over the past two years, and says it's been "fun" getting to work on new music finally.
Produced by and co-written by Labrinth, "R U Crazy" is an edgier slice of urban-pop goodness laden with a hard-hitting beat that perfectly mixes electronic sounds with Maynard's natural R&B swag and Justin Timberlake-esque falsetto. The song finds him trying to avoid the advances of his ex-girlfriend over Hip-Hop beats. It represents a rather large shift in sound for the English Dance/Hip-Hop singer and producer, and carries the same vibe as previous singles "Can't Say No" and "Animal," but undeniably sounds more mature and polished.
Maynard might be back with a new song about an ex-girlfriend he needs to vent about, but he refuses to name and shame his former lovers. The Brighton lad has brought out a bit of attitude with his infectious new tune "R U Crazy," but he draws the line at how bad ass he will be. "I would never kiss and tell. I'm not that kind of person," he told Guilty Pleasures in an exclusive chat. "I think everyone has got their crazy ex relationships they need to vent about," he said explaining the lyrics of the tune, adding: "It's about the situation where if you try to rekindle a relationship it becomes apparent it's not going to work."
The accompanying dark and sexy video is a literal take on the lyrics as we see Maynard soulfully let's a former lover know that he has moved on insisting, "must be stupid if you think we can start again." The video starts off with an old school band vibe with Maynard and his band before a girl comes into the mix and some hallway dancing. A deeply pissed-looking Maynard strides through an empty hotel as thumping, aggro electro beats pulsate in the background as he attempting to evade the advances of his past flame, before she finally seduces him in their hotel room.
