Nickelodeon's flagship comedy "iCarly" star Miranda Cosgrove is finally releasing her debut album, "Sparks Fly!" The 16-year-old might be the star of the hit Nickelodeon show, but if you want to make it in Hollywood, you've got to face the hard truth: you have to expand your brand to stay ahead of the game, and that means recording an album.
A music video for her brand new album's lead single "Kissin' U" has been premiered during Friday's episode of "iCarly" on Nickelodeon, and her upcoming album "Sparks Fly!" is due to come out in the U.S. on April 27. The 'iCarly' actress goes public with her romance in the newly-premiered music video filmed at the boardwalk in Santa Monica on March 4, the video captures her locking lips with her love interest when taking shelter from the pouring rain. Cosgrove's bound to find a place on the charts and make a name for her.
The new single "Kissin' U" was written by Cosgrove with the help of Dr. Luke, the man behind Britney Spears and Katy Perry's hit singles. It is a zippy if cookie-cutter pop song — not terribly exciting or risky, but with enough listens you'll find yourself singing along with the chorus. It was debuted on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show as well as a live chat on her Facebook on March 12, and will be released to iTunes next Tuesday. From the sounds of her new single, her voice has matured into something like a yearning Michelle Branch yelp — but it's not bad.
It appears Cosgrove is ready to compete with the likes of other teen double-threats Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato by releasing her first full-length solo album, "Sparks Fly!" According to THR, Cosgrove just inked a new deal with Nickelodeon to film an extra 26 episodes for "iCarly," that puts her salary in the low to mid-seven-figure range. iCarly's most recent one-hour special, "iSaved Your Life" pulled in 12.4 million viewers, the network's highest-rated and most-watched live-action telecast ever.
